Heya Loh, not much traffic thru here anymore. It's kinda like snail mail now. Send a message, wait a few weeks for someone to see it, then maybe get a reply. Very good to hear from you again.

I like the fact that Ching has kept this up so long, very kind of him.

For those that knew, my brother (the original Colmir, and Gardann) has been in Iraq the last year or so, and has just returned from his tour. Chances are good he's back online on whatever server Saryrn morfed into.

Happy Holidays to everyone, all the best!

That's awesome to hear Zax about Col returning home safe.  It's great to see you two!

I can keep this site running indefinitely.  I've thought about sending an email to everyone with a pointer back here, but i'm not sure if that's rude or not.  I suspect there are people who lost track when the eqkeepers.net domain was let go.

We may all be in different games by now, but this site will always be a common ground where we can check in, say hello, and reminisce about entire saturdays spent raiding the plane of hate.

in the admin interface, looking at the login names sorted by last activity going back nearly 5 years is a wacky trip in a time machine.

I like the Holiday look.

I was just in Best Buy grabbing my bi-annual upgrade to Quicken and this years Turbo-Tax, and I strolled through the games section purely by habit. I gave up on WoW (great game, too many fuggin kids though) and I never bothered with EQ 2, Guild Wars or NWN. I did see the advance copies of Vanguard though, and it looked interesting.

Ching, if anyone could possibly know the word on the street about this game (from Beta players) it would be you. Is this going to be worth buying?

I hope everyone had a great Holiday season.

vanguard needs a sturdy computer. that's about all i know so far from first hand experience. they've definitely made a game that will look good in a few years, once people have hardware that can display it at the highest settings.  this is different from eq, which looked poor when compared to other games at release, and for the years after. can you believe they still haven't addressed the horrible luclin models?

everything else in vanguard is just going to be brad compromising on his crazy ideals. just browsing on forums shows that he's caved in on some of his "vision" ideas.  these things just aren't fun, so it's glad that they go away.

i think beta is about to go fully open, so everyone will be able to play it in the next few weeks.  like all games, some of it will be garbage, some will be fun, but if you have some friends along the way, the game will be tolerable.

playing warcraft certainly didn't foster much community spirit in me. the game was solo for the most part, and people only grouped to finish off the elite dungeon parts of their solo quest arcs.

i'm rambling, but i'll start a vanguard thread here once i get outta the newbie area and get an understanding of what's going on.

After my last post, I went and did some digging myself through the forums. It seems to be exactly as you say. I'm looking at $300 of upgrades, so I can pay x-amount/month. If I knew ahead of time that there would be the same or better community as EQ1 I'd really have to think about it.

I really enjoyed WoW, mainly as a solo break away from EQ (not that I didn't do my share of soloing there as well). But the overwhelming majority of immature players, whether just plain kids, or adults reliving their childhood, drove me away. Wow is fun from the point of view, that it's not as much as a challenge as EQ was. Kinda like the easy reading you take to the beach or pool. It was fun, but it didn't last a year.

There are a lot of aspects of EQ1 that I miss, and it would be nice if Vanguard could replace that.

FWIW the Open Beta did start, and most folks can get their prepaid copy at Best Buy or EB games. After reading the forums, I'm going to wait at least a week, maybe 2 to see how aggressively they attack the bugs. If SoE is running it, then I'd rather wait on the sideline to see if they fall on their face. If Sigil is truly calling the shots, maybe it will work out.

I'd love to see ya in game Ching (and any of Keepers) if it does work out.

Holy crap the board is still alive! Awesome!  Glad to hear Colmir is back from the war and is ok.

Ok I gave up on games for a while, went to EQ2 with some other Keepers briefly but my computer hated it.  Couple months later got upgrades and dove back in to EQ2 levelled up to around 50 on one of my chars, was an officer in the guild I joined.  Got busy with family and work like usual so I quit yet again, then recently I decided to finally try WoW... pretty cool, nice for soloing (you are right though.. lots of kids) all the games are really lacking the umph we used to have in the old days... I don't know maybe we are just getting old :)

Miss you all, glad to hear you doing well.  Thanks Ching for keeping this site alive, that is awesome.

Happy Holidays everyone from your old Queen Nerd.

Nice to hear from you Aire. Even better to hear things are going well. Did you try PvP in WoW? I took the plunge and went to a PvP server when I started WoW, and surprisingly loved it. Aside from the battlefields, always having to watch for the enemy, or setting up ambushes for them was a new source of giggles on my end.

Well with any luck, we'll find a game we can enjoy as much as early EQ.

You know I tried a PVP character on EQ2 and actually found it very exciting at times.  On WoW I haven't gone that route yet... we'll see :)

Ok, I'm slow. The board went plain graphics again, and no promo trailer. Actually it's been like that the last few times I checked by, and I just now figured it out.

So now Vanguard has been out a few days. I read quite a bit on some of the various forums, but I haven't read any of them since launch. How did it go?

I upgraded my video card and RAM, so in theory, I should be able to run it now, just waiting to see if I should bother.

Wow, yeah I know, bad pun, but even still.

I respect your opinion quite a bit Ching, and that's a pretty damning indictment of Vanguard. I've dug around some more on the Ten Ton Hammer website, and it seemed like they had made significant progress in making Vanguard playable. That and you get non stop bashing of WoW there as well (on the Vanguard forums). I really enjoyed playing WoW, I just got to the point that I couldn't stand the dominance of a bunch of prepubescent teens.

Well, I'm going to keep an eye on Vanguard, although it will be an even more cynical eye than usual.

Let us ( all 4 of us) know how the WoW expansion goes.

I'm moving over to the other, and more importantly, correct topic.

Thought I'd poke my nose in and say hey.  Playing eq2 which is fun...they actually put a class that can glide in Kelethin so you don't die if you drop out of the trees!  Douv is playing wow he's hooked up with the older gamers which is a guild of 25+ rl age peoples.  age segregation helps to ignore the idiot teens.

I've seen their web page, and frankly that did look appealing. I'm enjoying VG atm, just joined a guild, have a few core friends I Advent with, all in all, having a good time.

Funny thing, it appears as though there is a Down-under presence on our server, Targonor. I just seem to get lucky that way.

Hola! Not sure if anyone still remembers me, been a while

Stumbled over this board by coincidence and was hit by nostalgia. Nice to see some of you guys are still hanging around!
Can't believe SOE released a whole 12 expansions after I left Norrath and joined the world of Aerynth (Shadowbane). Ah well, ended up in Tyria (Guild Wars) after that detour...c'est la vie.

TOG has a presence in most online games...whatever the game you want to play they probably have a guild that you can join.

hey guys, I was supprised to see that this site was still active. Im glad to see that some of the old gang are still keeping in touch.
say hi to colmir for me zax I am happy to here that he made it home safe.

as for me I was just about to delete this site from my favorites listing in my browser but decided to click on it first, Im glad that I did guess I will keep it active for awhile longer now that I see some recent post on it.  Ive been bouncing around alot tried my hand at a few different games eq2 was fun for awhile but most the eq1 keeper that started it faded out fairly quickly few of them moved over to city of villians and I didnt follow did try city of heros for awhile but lost interest in a matter of months I figure COV would be more of the same. The last 6 mos or so Ive made a move to WOW soloed to 60 easy enough there and started hunting around for a pvp server to give that a try and saw some info on a TOG guild which really interested me alot hoping to find a taste of the old time on eq1 again. so I join the web site the the other day and plan on start anew on a pvp wow server with a horde TOG Guild on it.

I will be popping on agian to say hi, great to see that everyone is doing well
your old friend

I absolutely loved serverwide team PvP in WoW. I hope you enjoy it as well.

I logged on tonight in VG, and some friends sent me a quick invite ( a slot had just opened up) and I see a name that looked familiar. I say, "hey Xtens you ever play EQ 1?"

Lol, it was great seeing old friends in new toons. As I've mentioned we have a sizeable ANZAC population on our server (Targonor), and I'm sure X has found a home with folks playing in his timezone. He passed along that Karlah is expecting again, and that they have moved back to NZ.

Even better to come here after I logged out and see a post from Ronik. Glad to see things are going well for you bud. If you can handle the kids, team PvP WoW is a great game. If you're looking for more of an EQ1 feel, VG is very close, warts and all. It has many of the things you loved about EQ, and it has several of the things that you hated.

By pure chance, I just happend to come across the url for the board stored away in some old files.  So, I thought I would stop by and say hello. It's encouraging to see that so many of the core crowd still occasionally post here.

As far as games go, I really have given them up.  Just about the only thing I ever play is Xbox 360 from time to time.  If any of you play on XBox Live, my handle is Zorvic.  Send me a message sometime, but I haven't logged onto it in a while.

I got into PlanetSide pretty heavily for a while.  Then, I played WoW for about a year and a half or so.  I had a 60 Hunter that I really enjoyed.  Then, I ended up messing around with a priest and it become my main character for a long time.  My 60 priest was the most fun I had since the good ole days of making my wrists hurt from twisting bard songs.  At any rate, it finally started getting stale and it was simply eating up too much time.  So, I quit.

It has taken me a long time to finally kick the habit, but I am done with MMOs.  I just don't have the bandwidth for it anymore between a 6 month old and work.  To a certain extent, work has become my replacement time sink for gaming.  I invest a lot of time in keeping up to date with never ending advances in technology related to my profession (software engineer), and it has been paying off.  Even though I don't really have the urge to play anymore, I still find myself occassionally thinking about the good ole days.  It is somewhat sad to realize how many days were spent playing that game, but they were some great times that no other MMO has ever lived up to.

As far as personal stuff goes, I have been married for almost two years now.  And, I have a six month old son (which, I think I posted about the news when we found out over a year ago).  It has been a wild ride adjusting to being a dad, but it has been fun at the same time.  Other than that, I have been extremely busy with work.  I just got back from a three week trip to Connecticut where I was doing some consultant work for a hedgefund company.  It was a cool place to work, but I am still tired from the 14+ hour daily grind.

Anyway, enough of my rambling.  I hope all is well with everyone.

Now that I re-stumbled across the forum, I will make it a point to stop by on more of a regular basis.

Later,
Zorvic - Retired Bard

Hi there -

So I'm not really playing anything at the moment. I started a new job with a web-design company a couple months ago as the Production Manager. The best thing about it is that it has nothing to do with the law whatsoever. I've been putting in a lot of time at the office to fix some issues, so my WoW playtime dropped to zero. I might pick it up again, but probably not for a while still.

Hope everyone is doing well!

Hey! I'm going to be in Australia May 30 for 45 days at Camp Growl, Shoal Water Bay area for training with the Australian military.  Rumor around the battalion is we get a 3 day weekend in Brisbane, which I hear is somewhat of a party town.  Anyone have any good suggestions for the weekend in either shoal water bay or brisbane?
Title: Re: :)
Post by: Fizzgig on May 18, 2007, 02:30:14 AM
that's like 600km + north of Brisbane are you sure they are letting you loose?  Anyhow if you come down here I'll buy you a drink.  Shoalwater bay is good for water sports, theres dolphins and coral islands and if your real lucky you'll see some dugong and humpbacks.  Military guys aren't so popular with the tree huggers up that way so be careful :)  If you go south find Australia zoo and the Ettamogah Pub (it's in front of aussie world but the rides there are more for kids than adults)  No matter where you end up try some morton bay bugs and a kangaroo or emu steak.  it doesn't help much that I have no idea what you want to do...shop...eat...thrillseek...booty call(I hear the girls in Rockhampton are easy and adore American military)  but I hope some of this helps a bit.

Remember the weather down here is cooling down you may need shirts with sleaves anyplace south of Noosa

Hello, doing my "every so often" drop in and say hi.  Well I did head to a PVP server in WoW and levelled a hunter to 55 so far.  Kicked some horde butt, but now on break and popped back into EQ2 for a bit to see what is going on.  Next stop?  hmm maybe a little trip around EQ1 Saryrn for old times sake... I wonder if Airelyn is still alive on there?
