General Topics / EQ instant messanger
November 02, 2002, 07:20:54 AM
hmm well this is cool... but you have to pay which is lame.

Keep in Touch Beyond EverQuest
EQIM, the EverQuest Instant Messaging Service, is an exciting new way to chat with your EverQuest friends. With the ability to connect to the EverQuest chat server, players can now log on to this instant messaging service as one of their characters and chat directly with players on any server, create their own chat rooms, even over group or guild channels. Staying in touch with friends, guildmates and groupmates has never been so easy and convenient.

What Can I Do With EQIM?
There is almost no limit to the ways you can use EQIM. Stuck at work but want to monitor your guild's big raid? No problem! EQIM will keep you in touch with people and on top of events in your EQ community while you're not in the game. Plan the evening's adventures before you enter EQ so you can get in and get on with the fun immediately—reduce or eliminate the time it takes to look for a group and to organize big raids!

Host guild meetings in private chat rooms that you can moderate.

Looking for a key player for an impromptu raid? Check EQIM to see if he is online. If you know his other aliases, check them all on any server!

Explore the EverQuest Community
The global EverQuest community is just a click away with EQIM, keeping you in contact with old friends and opening new avenues to meet new friends. EQIM adds a completely new dimension to your EQ gaming experience. With an active subscriber base of more than 430,000 players and as many as 100,000 or more players logged on simultaneously, the world of EQ has potential to expand for you in unimagined ways.

How Do I Get EQIM?
The EQIM client download will be made available very soon, so check back here at everquestlive.com often. There will be a trial period during which you will be able to try out the service for free. After this trial period there will be a subscription fee to use the service. You must have an active and valid EverQuest subscription with at least one character to use the EQIM service.

If I Like It, Can I Keep Using It?
If you like EQIM, after the trial period has passed you can subscribe to the service for a nominal fee and continue using EQIM. The subscription fee will be announced soon. EverQuest Legends subscribers will get EQIM at no charge!

Well it better not be more then like 3 bucks or they are money hogs :)

Had to put a fix here for non-guildies to have access :)

Download this file and unzip the 2 files into your "aire" folder.

Also look in your "aire" folder and delete a file called BazaarSearchWnd.xml.

Voila, the UI works again :)

General Topics / New Patch Message Stuff
October 17, 2002, 07:03:57 PM
- Some NPCs were unable to cast Area Effect spells and other innate abilities. This would have caused many of the recently retuned NPCs to be considerably easier than intended.

- Updated the range on the Magician spell Rod of Mystical Transvergence.

- Rods of Transvergence and Modulation Rods can no longer be used by those who do not have enough maximum hit points to survive the mana conversion. Please note: That is MAXIMUM hit points! It is still possible for appropriate level characters to rod themselves to death.

- Barbarian Beastlords will once again return to summoning their own dogs. Not someone else's. If you were summoning a dog that didn't appear familiar, please do not worry. Your own dog has returned. He missed you. Please feed him.

- Altered the stacking for the Shaman spell Voice of the Berserker to match the other spells in its line.

- Aura of White Petals has been updated to have its strength as it was prior to its stacking changes.

- In the original patch yesterday morning, /SHIELD was added as an innate ability that all Warriors now gain at level 35. Warriors may now choose to take a portion of melee damage that is intended for another. Warriors, please type /SHIELD for a full description of this ability. You may find that it assists you greatly in your groups.

Correspondingly, NPCs and Pets over level 30 who are Warriors were granted this ability as well. Certain NPCs and Pets may choose to protect beings that they have an affinity for, if they believe that it will benefit the shielded being. For now, however, there is not yet a way to manually cause or prevent this behavior in pets.

General Topics / Fear CR
October 12, 2002, 04:45:39 PM
Well I just wanted to thank a few people who helped us on our Fear CR.  As most know Fear can and has turned into a 18 hour CR before... luckily ours was only about 4.5 hours.

But I want to thank...

Magdeline (WotC)
Chyax (OOP)
Syrris (Familjen)
Ching & Ijuante (HnE)
Char (ToN?)
Bebbin (SoF)

Plus a few other SoH who showed up to lend a hand.

Anyway just wanted to thank those folks and correct me if I forgot someone.

I thought this was cute :D
===================

On the first day God created the cow.  God said, "You must go to field with the farmer all day long and suffer under the sun, have calves and give milk to support the farmer. I will give you a life span of sixty years."

The cow said, "That's a kind of a tough life you want me to live for sixty years. Let me have twenty years and I'll give back the other forty."

And God agreed.

On the second day, God created the dog.  God said, "Sit all day by the door of your house and bark at anyone who comes in or walks past. I will give you a life span of twenty years."

The dog said, "That's too long to be barking.  Give me ten years and I'll give back the other ten."

So God agreed (sigh).

On the third day God created the monkey.  God said, "Entertain people, do
monkey tricks, make them laugh. I'll give you a twenty year life span."

Monkey said, "How boring, monkey tricks for twenty years?  I don't think so.  Dog gave you back ten, so that's what I'll do too, okay?"

And God agreed again.

On the fourth day God created man.  God said, "Eat, sleep, play, have sex, enjoy. Do nothing, just enjoy, enjoy. I'll give you twenty years."

Man said, "What?  Only twenty years?  No way man.  Tell you what, I'll take my twenty, and the forty cow gave back, and the ten dog gave back and the ten monkey gave back. That makes eighty, okay?"

"Okay," said God. "You've got a deal."

So that is why for the first twenty years we eat, sleep, play, have sex, enjoy, and do nothing; for the next forty years we slave in the sun to support our family; for the next ten years we do monkey tricks to entertain our grandchildren; and for the last ten years we sit in front of the house and bark at everybody.

Life has now been explained.

General Topics / The new Raid system!
October 03, 2002, 08:21:04 PM
All I can say is WOOOOOOOOOT.

Note: The following is from the Test Server and is not available on the Live Servers. This system may change as it undergoes further testing before being put live.
Raids

In the past, and even at the writing of this [...], experience on raids would generally go to a single group or a few groups. The group doing the most damage would get the experience on any given kill. But, perhaps even at the time you are reading this [...], that will be changed by a new Raid feature.

Because the system is still being worked on as this is written, some of the details may change by the time it is implemented. However, we'll give you the planned functionality as it stands at this time.

The Raid system is intended to aid in the formation and organizing raids and make looting on raids a little more manageable. At the same time, it allows a certain amount of experience to be shared among all members of a raid. The basics of the system work very much like grouping has always worked. The Raid Leader is the leader of all the raid groups and the group leaders remain leaders of their individual groups.

Alt-R or /raidwindow will toggle the new Raid Window. This window works much like the group window. You can invite people to the raid (if you are the raid leader) and see a list of the folks in your raid, along with the status of those members (Raid Leader, Group Leader or raid member - which shows with no rank). It also shows you the group number of the individual members.

Inviting and Removing People from a Raid.

Only Raid Leaders and Raid Group Leaders can invite people to a raid. This is done with the Invite button on the raid window.

If a Raid Leader invites an individual (someone not in a group), that person joins the raid as a Raid Group Leader. If the Raid Leader invites a member of a group, the entire group joins the raid, and their group leader becomes a Raid Group Leader.

A Raid Group Leader can invite people to their group, thus inviting them to join the raid group as well.

Only a Raid Leader can remove someone from the raid. He or she does so simply by clicking on the character's name in the raid window and clicking the Disband button (also in the raid window).

Being removed from your group (using the normal grouping features) will not remove you from the raid.

You can remove yourself from the raid just by clicking the Disband button in the raid window.

Raid Chat

Just like groups, raids have their own chat channel. /rsay works for the raid just as /gsay does for groups. Just like group chat, you can set this to be your default channel for a given chat window by choosing it from the right-click Default Channel context menu.

Experience

Experience for killing NPCs will be distributed to all members of the raid that are within range. However, the experience given will be smaller than the experience that would be earned by a single group. Generally, unless you are fighting NPCs that require a raid, you will still be better off earning experience with the old fashioned six-person group.

Raids will definitely allow for larger than traditional groups, however, much of EverQuest is designed with the six-person group in mind. Adding a small number of people to a given group will allow this "oversized" group to gain experience. However, we recommend that once a "raid" of ten or more people forms, a second, traditional group split off and adventure on their own.

Looting

The Raid Leader determines the looting permissions for any NPC killed by the raid. There are three types of looting that the leader can choose from (though the Raid Leader can always loot NPCs killed by the raid).

1. Only the raid leader can loot until the corpse opens up for all

2. Only the raid leader and raid group leaders can loot until the corpse opens up

3. Raid leader chooses up to 9 other raid members that can loot until the corpse opens up

Please note that altering loot permissions only applies to NPCs that are killed after changing this setting.

See the command list below for more information about setting raid loot permissions.

When an item is looted by a raid member, a loot message is sent to all members of the raid.

Summary of Raid Commands:

Below is a list of all the slash commands that are related to raids followed by a brief description of what they do and how to use them for quick reference.

- /raidwindow - toggles the raid window

- /makeraidleader [name]- reassigns raid leadership - Optional argument, name of raid member to be new leader, or you can just target them. If you type a person's name, that name is used instead of your current raid window target.

- /raidinvite - invites the current target to the raid

- /raidaccept - accepts an invitation to a raid

- /raiddecline - declines an invitation to a raid.

- /raidremove - removed the current raid target from the raid

- /setloottype <#> - sets the raid loot type - Takes one number argument: 1, 2, 3.

- /addraidlooter - adds a raid member as an early looter to all future corpses - Target a raid member in raid window.

- /removeraidlooter - removes a raid member as a possible looter from all future corpses - Target a raid member in raid window.

- /rsay - Sends a message to all members of the raid

General Topics / Raid Exp may be finally coming soon
September 10, 2002, 09:59:27 PM
No offical announcement, just some inventive snooping on some folks parts.

This is in the eqstr_en.txt right next to the petition commands (meaning it was added recently)

5059 %1 joined the raid
5060 %1 is already in a raid.
5061 You formed a raid.
5062 You were removed from the raid.
5063 %1 has left the raid.
5064 You invite %1 to join your raid.
5065 %1 invites you to join a raid.
5066 %1 is currently considering joining another raid.
5067 To join the raid...
5068 %1's name changed to %2
5069 You are now the leader of the raid.
5070 %1 is now the leader of your raid.
5071 Your raid was disbanded.
5072 %1 was not assigned leadership.
5073 Only the leader of the raid can invite someone.
5074 To invite someone to your raid, you must first target them.
5075 Only player characters can be in a raid.
5076 You cannot invite yourself to the raid.
5077 That person is already in your raid.
5078 You cannot join the raid because %1 is either linkdead or is not in the zone.
5079 You notify %1 that you agree to join the raid.
5080 You declined the invitation to join %1's raid.
5081 %1 rejected your offer to join the raid.
5082 %1 is not in your raid.
5083 You have joined the raid.
5084 A member of the group of the person you are inviting to the raid is out of range. The invite has failed.

So those are new command responses coming to the game in the future.

Cool

General Topics / Cleric Hammers
September 09, 2002, 02:13:20 AM
Well as most clerics realized, our new hammer got the nerf bat a couple days ago.

When it first came out it was super-powered and proc'd like 15 times a fight... now i'm lucky to get it to proc 4 times.  So bummer, at least i can still survive greens, but blues are pretty tough again.  No biggy, kinda saw this coming... but now they released 2 new hammers that drop in Luclin.  Lvl 58 and Lvl 60... Ching saw em drop last night in Ssra.  They proc more the higher level they are.

Here are the new hammer stats...
Hammer of Divinity lvl58  Hammer of Souls lvl60
1HB, 14 Dmg, 18Ddly, AC 10, Bane Undead +10, Dex +25, Wis +5, HP +35, Mana +35, Sv vs Magic +5

Effect: Hand of the Gods (75 - 150 DD) (Combat)

General Topics / Ok ready to fight!
September 04, 2002, 10:14:59 PM
hehe, i've been sitting here reading all the different boards and holy cow people are in an uproar.

First off the exp change... low blues give less exp, higher mobs give more... whats wrong with this?  People are bitching like crazy about this, because basically this change hurts the 2 boxing groups that have been storming through AA exp and such... it makes group a bit more enticing then soloing or 2 boxing.  All I can say is thank god, VI brings the fun of grouping back to the high level game.  Wow I may actually get noticable exp in a group?  Boy I can see why people bitch wtf lol.

Second off "The Cleric Patch"... well we did get an insane amnount of stuff in this patch and the other classes are jealous... understandable, they'll get over it with time.

Third off Ragefire... Ok other classses and our own class needs to quit bitching.  Cleric epic aint no cakewalk even with this change... at least this will relieve some server stress as people wont have to fight over spawn anymore.

Anyway i had to laugh... EVERY class board is up in arms heh.  I do wish they would've been able to introduce the new druid/shammy heals today to ease the tension of people freaking out.

General Topics / More new stuff on test
September 01, 2002, 08:39:59 AM
New Particles:

Welcome to the first testing of EQ's new, more efficient particle engine. We've put some new effects on a few existing spells for people to look at.
We've implemented a "Near Clip Plane" for the new particle engine. If you're drowning in particles too close to your face, you can make this number larger to cause EQ to "clip out" particles very close to you. This is stored as NewParticleClipPlane in your eqclient.ini. For now, you can change it there.
The particle density for the new particles is controlled by the option "NewParticleDensity" in your eqclient.ini. The range to work with is 0.0 to 1.0.
Unlike the first version of this patch message stated, commands such as /showspelleffects won't effect the new particle system.

New Interface:

Deleting Spells from Spellbook: Storebought spells are now deletable from your spellbook. To delete a spell, right click it to highlight it and tap the DELETE key. Please note: This does not convert the spell back into a scroll. You will have to buy a new scroll if you wish to re-scribe the spell.
Item Links: When you inspect an item with Alt-LeftClick, the item inspect window stays up. To paste a "link" to the item you're looking at into your chat bar, click on the item's graphic. That will "speak" a link that others can click on to see the stats of the item, as if they were inspecting it themselves.
Bazaar: We've added a "Focus Effect" parameter to the Bazaar search. You can now search for focus items.
Help Window: This window now displays once on startup for all new characters, and its open/closed state is saved.

Gameplay:

Clerics now get the BASH skill at level 25 and it progresses all the way to level 60.
Altered Mage AA Frenzied Burnout to no longer make the pet suicide at the end.
Higher level PCs will be more resistant to lower level NPCs' spells.
Erudites of Prexus now start at the proper location.

Stacking:

Warder's Protection should have considerably fewer stacking and overwrite issues. Thanks to the folks at the Ranger's Glade for all of their help in tracking this down. (Ow. No pun intended.)
Druid Damage Shields should now all stack in the correct order.
Druid HP buffs are no longer overwriting stronger cleric HP buffs.
Harness of Spirit and Visions of Grandeur should interact a bit more sanely.
Existing effects should no longer be stripped off when the incoming spell isn't going to take hold.
Boon of Garou and other illusions now interact the right way.

Have a good weekend!

=========================

Just like to repeat this...

Item Links: When you inspect an item with Alt-LeftClick, the item inspect window stays up. To paste a "link" to the item you're looking at into your chat bar, click on the item's graphic. That will "speak" a link that others can click on to see the stats of the item, as if they were inspecting it themselves.

That is soooooo cool... so now when on a raid and all you nerdlings are asking "what are the stats?", "what are the stats?", "what are the stats?", "what are the stats?", "what are the stats?", "what are the stats?", "what are the stats?", "what are the stats?", "what are the stats?", "what are the stats?", "what are the stats?", "what are the stats?", "what are the stats?"... I can tell you without it being a huge pain in the butt hehe.

Also if you want to see some of the new spell effects, check em out... kinda nifty...
