General Topics / More New Spells On Test
August 27, 2002, 10:57:46 PM
A number of spell changes have hit the Test Server today.  A revamp of the stacking system has begun it's implementation into the spell data along with some further revisions of existing spells:

Death Peace, an improved Feign Death, is currently available to Necromancers at Level 60.

Harmshield, a Divine Aura spell, is currently available to Shadow Knights at Level 51.

Ethereal Elixir is no longer a group spell, but a 75 foot area effect spell. (can you imagine the agro this would cause if cast in battle heh)

Dementing Visions has been upgraded to do 775 damage.

Glamorous Visage, Horrifying Visage, Calming Visage and Haunting Visage now have a casting time of 2 seconds, duration of 36 seconds and a recast of 24 seconds (they had previously been on Test at 10 min duration, 9 minute recast).

Ancient: Rytan's Dirge of Death has been added to the Bard song list at Level 60.  This song activates a group Feign Death when used.  It currently has a 3 second cast time and instant recast.

Note that these spell changes are only on the Test Server and may change further before going live, or not go live at all.

hmm Group Feign Death... interesting.

General Topics / New Spells on Test

Well looks like Clerics and Beastlords have some new spells coming.

Finally the beastlords have some good raid spells... they got 2 new lines... area effect mana and health regen and area effect atk and hp.  Both of these lines buff any player within 200 feet of the caster, so potentially you can easily buff your whole raid party in one shot, kind of like the AA mass group buff.  These should be cool and will be nice to have a BL specific purpose now.

Clerics are getting a couple new heals 56+, a new summoned hammer spell (oh joy lol), and Yaulp 5.  Ok I thought, "Oh great another yaulp spell that i'll never use."  but this one is cool and we will actually use it.  Here is what it does...

Self: Increase ATK (50)
Self: Increase Dex (75)
Self: Increase Attack Rate (25%)
Self: Increase Mana Regeneration (10 per tick)

Mmm look at that nice mana regen :)  It is level 56 spell, It costs only 25 mana to cast, it lasts for 24 seconds and has a 18 second recast time.  If I am thinking of this spell right we may be able to use it almost like a ghetto canabilize w/o the health loss.

Anyway that is it for now... kthxbye.

General Topics / Keyrings... Yay Verant
August 13, 2002, 08:36:23 PM
ABSOR ON KEYRINGS

We spoke with Alan VanCouvering this morning to get some confirmation on the keyring code which appeared recently on the Live Servers:
The keyring code should go in fully with the patch tonight.

What will happen is that any appropriate keys will be added to your keyring. Any doors or locks that require those keys will work just by clicking on them. To find out what keys are on your keyring just type /key and the game will give you a list.

- Alan

So there you have it! Keyrings will be fully functional by tomorrow!

SO YAY NO MORE HAVING TO HANG ON TO THOSE STUPID KEYS!

Ok it's been a while since you heard us all screaming YATTA in guildchat and having to listen to Airelyn sing the song in full.

Well I found this flash file of the song, which I found funny heh... i know that doesn't say much, but if you were a fan of the Yatta song like I was you'll get a kick out of this spin off.

Now I have yet to see this quest in game lol --

Quotein some games, such as "Everquest," you can become a more powerful character if you sacrifice your children (vs10) and interpret omens (vs 10b).

Or I like how EQ is placed in the same league as porn heh --

QuoteWe do not escape the instructions of God by going online with our computers into the world of "Diablo," "Everquest," or pornography.

Ok so I have no problem with people having their own views and I don't care if they call RPG's the work of the devil... but come on at least they could research a little better so that they get their facts straight :)

Just thought the sacrificing children thing was pretty funny :)

August 10, 2002, 07:22:50 PM
One day this guy, who has been stranded on a desert island all alone for ten years, sees an unusual speck on the horizon. "It's certainly not a ship" he thinks to himself. As the speck gets closer and closer, he begins to rule out the possibilities of a small boat, then even a raft.

Suddenly, emerging from the surf comes this drop dead gorgeous blonde woman wearing a wet suit and scuba gear. She approaches the stunned guy and says to him, "Tell me, how long has it been since you've had a cigarette?" "Ten years" replies the stunned man. With that, she reaches over and unzips a waterproof pocket on her left sleeve and pulls out a pack of fresh cigarettes. He takes one, lights it and takes a long drag and says "Man oh man! Is that ever good!"

"And how long has it been since you've had a sip of bourbon?" she asks him. Trembling, the castaway replies: "Ten years!" She reaches over, unzips her waterproof pocket on her right sleeve pulls out a flask and hands it to him. He opens the flask, takes a long swig and says, "Wow, that's absolutely fantastic!" At this point, she starts slowly unzipping the long zipper that runs down the front of her wet suit, looks at him seductively and
asks, "And how long has it been since you've played around?"

With tears in his eyes the guy falls to his knees and says, "Oh sweet Jesus! Don't tell me you've got golf clubs in there too!"

For all of us who feel only the deepest love and affection for the way computers have enhanced our lives:

At a recent computer exposition (COMDEX), Bill Gates reportedly compared the computer industry with the auto industry and stated:

"If General Motors had kept up with the technology like the computer industry has, we would all be driving $25 cars that got 1,000 miles to the gallon."

In response to Bill's comments, GM issued a press release stating:

If General Motors had developed technology like Microsoft, we would all be driving cars with the following characteristics:

1- For no reason whatsoever, your car would crash twice a day.

2- Every time they repainted the lines in the road, you would have to buy a new car.

3- Occasionally your car would die on the freeway for no reason. You would have to pull over to the side of the road, close all of the windows, shut off the car, restart it, and reopen the windows before you could continue. For some reason, you would simply accept this.

4- Occasionally, executing a maneuver such as a left turn would cause your car to shut down and refuse to restart, in which case you would have to reinstall the engine.

5- MacIntosh would make a car that was powered by the sun, was reliable, five times as fast and twice as easy to drive -- but would run on only 5% of the roads.

6- The oil, water temperature, and alternator warning lights would all be replaced by a single "General Protection Fault" warning light.

7- The airbag system would ask "Are you sure?" before deploying.

8- Occasionally, for no reason whatsoever, your car would lock you out and refuse to let you in until you simultaneously lifted the door handle, turned the key and grabbed hold of the radio antenna.

9- Every time GM introduced a new car, car buyers would have to learn to drive all over again because none of the controls would operate in the same manner as the old car.

10- You'd have to press the "Start" button to turn the engine off.

General Topics / Focus added to items
June 04, 2002, 04:06:04 AM
This patch has a large selection of focus effects added to existing items. This is the first round of non-summoned focus items, and the goal is to get a decent amount of them into the hands of players without creating a bottleneck camp for new items. This round of focus items includes over 150 items with focus effects being added retroactively, and should provide a good foundation for moving forward with new focus items in the future.

Additional focus effects and items will be added in the next round, specifically to higher end content as we create more specialized effects to use on these items.

- Rich

Here is a list of items currently known from the Test Server as reported on Graffes:

Polished Bone Bracelet - Affliction Efficiency I
Bracelet of Woven Grass - Spell Haste I

General Topics / Great news for Pet casters
June 03, 2002, 07:13:53 PM
Hi,

I wanted to take a minute to let you know about some pet upgrades that we've just completed. The changes are fairly significant, and we think they address a lot of concerns that have been brought up by players.

Here are the changes we've made -

Pets will not attack mesmerized creatures
All pets now think of mesmerized creatures as being dead. Pets will not break mez, will not attack mesmerized creatures, and will forget any hate they had towards a mesmerized creature.

In short, if a monster gets mesmerized, your pet will forget about it and stop attacking it. This is good for all pet classes, and especially handy for Enchanters, who can now trust their pets to not break every mez as soon as it lands.

Pets are neutral to monsters
Monsters will not attack your pet first. All monsters see your pet as a neutral creature, and will leave it alone unless your pet attacks something. This means if your pet wanders off, it won't bring a train of monsters back with it.

Keep in mind, if your pet chases a fleeing monster, other monsters may still attack it. Your pet is only treated as neutral while it is not acting in a hostile manner.

Pets no longer take experience in most situations
In the past, pets would take a full share of experience if they did the most damage to a creature. We've changed this rule as follows -

* Pets take ZERO experience from a creature, unless no player does damage to that creature.

* Pets take 75% of the experience from a creature - if no player does damage to that creature.

This means that your pet takes no experience from you or your group unless your pet kills a monster with no help from players. As long as you or your groupmates do damage to a monster, your pet will take ZERO experience.

Due to the high potential power of dire charmed pets, they will continue to take a share of the experience. In the worst case, dire charmed pets will take a full share of experience - this is the same as it's always been.

The amount of experience taken by a dire charmed pet scales based on how much damage the pet does. If the dire charmed pet is doing the majority of the damage, it's experience share gets larger. If you or your group are doing reasonable damage to a monster, a dire charmed pet will not take much experience. The more damage you do, the less experience a dire charmed pet will take. In most situations, dire charmed pets will take less experience than they did previously.

As with all pets, if a dire charmed pet does the majority of damage, and no player does any damage, the dire charmed pet will take 75% of the experience from the kill.

Overall, these changes are a significant boost to pet classes. The dev team has been hard at work on finding and implementing the right solutions, and we hope you'll enjoy these changes. Thanks for your patience as caster balancing continues, and thanks for playing.
