Title: In Rememberance
Post by: Krellian on September 11, 2002, 07:20:59 AM
Though I didn't know you, I will never forget you, those who fell. Those who gave their lives so others may live. Those whose lives were taken from them senselessly. Those whose lives were cut short the day the entire country stood silent, awed and fearful, but stood together more than ever.

Can't believe it's been a year already.  Very beautiful poem.

it's to soon for all the stuff they're showing on TV over here...we had to get kid's movies cause even the kid's channels are all over sept 11th in the comercials.....alot of kids in australia woke up turned on the TV last year to watch their cartoons to be shown graphic pic's of explosions and people falling out the outside of the buildings and It's just as bad this year...actually it's worse cause all the news channels are sitting around WAITING for a follow up attack....just in case you can't guess the news media annoy me something awful

I agree that there needs to be more responsible journalism from the media. What the national news didn't show (while I was watching) was that the bulk of America got up this morning and went to work.  Sounds like a small thing but think about it for a moment...

On my way in to work this morning I was greated by the usual Identification checks at the gate and an M113 and HUMMV.

I cried when taps was played at my building and jumped when the 21 gun salute was fired and swelled with pride as the Sergeant sang Star Spangled Banner and God Bless America.  At the end of the day I stood and watched as the Color Guard lowered and folded the Flag.

While I agree the media is not always the most considerate I also think our children need to know what is happening in their world. My son on the day it happened came home and saw it on TV and thought it was an action movie. He never once considered the idea that people had died in real life. I think they did a beautiful job in tribute today and letting people grieve and letting children know that its ok to grieve and cry and also that we can go on, that there is a tomorrow. Just my two cp

I do agree that our children have to be informed with the reality behind it all... I do think they did a good job tonight with the remembrance programs.

I do also think journalists have to be more responsible... they have a knack for shoving info down your throat in a way that is over-exaggerated.

I do understand Fizz's view on this... I mean when their kids were getting up and ready for their morning cartoons they get nailed with horrific visions of the tragedy that attacked our country.  This is something that should be handled in a way where you sit down with your kids and watch together so you can explain everything to them as it happens.

Again the remembrance programs where very nicely done... it's the actual news programs that screw everything up.  Look at CNN... TERROR IN THE HOMELAND *dun dun dun* is your town next?  I mean come on wtf is that lol... scare tactics.

Just like when a big thunderstorm is coming through if you switch around to the different news programs you can tell which ones are quality news weather and which ones are scare tactic types.  Some tell you what is going on, this is what to watch for and that is it... Others use these horrid scare tactics which just end up freaking out the people who are afraid of storms and they won't do anything but sit and watch the stupid program... I guarantee 90 percent of the time after the storm goes through you were like hmm, was that it?

Sorry I don't like scare tactic journalism... annoys me horribly.

I would have told my kids...well my older one(my oldest being only 5 now) luckily(kind of) douv and I had seen the second plane hit live the night before and had some idea what would be on the tv in the morning....I don't know what they chose to show over there, maybe rescue efforts or something but for about 24 hours afterwards all the free to air stations showed nothing but the planes crashing the people jumping and the buildings coming down......we got rescue efforts later

Ya first 24 hours of it happening was all horrid visions of crashing and explosions and such... the rescue and heroic efforts came about 24 hours after the incident.

Well.... bomb threats are nothing new to schools really... when i was in grade 9 (now in OAC/Grade 13) we got a bomb threat at our school and we just stood outside for like 2 hours they did a quick sweep of the school and class went on as normal... also had a stabbing in the cafeteria that same year... its not really like i'm at a bad school in the slums of a huge city or nothing... the university of waterloo was just down the street...ya so anyways thats enough of my stupid mumblings but the point is society is going to hell... and its going there quickly...

I don't know how you guys send your kids off to school over there...I'd be horrified to find out there was a stabbing at a school near me let alone one someone I know was going to...kid's don't take weapons to school over here yet..I say yet cause we're generally about 10 years behind the state's on everything...but we should avoid the gun's in schools we have HUGLY strict gun law's here...If you don't have a really good reason to have a gun you won't get one...and self defense don't cut it

well i'm in canada and the guy didn't exactly bring the knife to school... they were playing cards in the cafeteria the one guy lost got really angry.. went into the kitchen took a butter knife and stabbed the guy in the back... nobody was really afraid to go to school after that.. it just happens to have been done at school...

not really disagreeing with you Fizz and not having kids of my own i can't begin to imagine how it would feel...
